Arabic Through the Quran

Standing in Salah surrounded by people crying due to powerful and emotional verses whilst I could only pick up the odd word. I realised I was not effectively communicating with Allah in my Salah and honestly it was probably impacting my Khushu. I then started Hifdh about a year ago - learning the Quran is amazing and reading translation/tafseer helps, but I felt a lot more fulfilled when I started to understand the gist of what I was reciting. For this course specifically, it is centred around the Quran, which was my priority.

My understanding of Arabic has improved exponentially since starting the course. I can pick up the gist of most passages of Quran I hear, have a good grasp on grammar rules, why different words have different harakat endings and how it impacts the meaning. I have also learned significantly more underlying vocabulary too. When reading the Quran I can now pick up on variations of what I previously thought was all just the same word, and understand why that variation is being used.

I decided to join the Arabic Through the Quran course when I found myself struggling to memorise the Quran with only a superficial understanding of Allah's words. The course has completely exceeded my expectations. Because of it, I've gained a deeper connection with the Quran by understanding the role of different types of words and grammatical structures in the ayahs. It has only highlighted how beautifully intentional Allah (SWT) is with the Quran and I feel like I have since unlocked a whole new relationship with Allah as a result.

This course certainly hasn't been without its challenges. The consistency and discipline it requires continues to humble me. I would recommend it to any Muslim who is seeking some personal development while learning something that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. I've had to confront my weaknesses and accept that I need to hold myself to a higher standard as a student of knowledge. I'm still stumbling along that path, and while I'm not perfect, I've learned that the path to Islamic knowledge is one of the most important commitments I have ever made and Allah has showered his blessings on me because of it. I'll never forget the moment when I worried that I wasn't going to be able to continue this class during a challenging period of my life. I was inclined to make dua and Allah enabled me to revise, apply my knowledge to verses of the Quran and continue learning with confidence in my abilities. I can't be more grateful for this.

I've always wanted to understand the Qur'an. Having spent years perfecting my recitation it was my Qur'an teacher who recommended I take this course. Having heard positive things from two other students regarding Ustadh Tahir and his teaching style, I was excited to say the least. I've tried to learn the Arabic language many times before in other ways but nothing compares to how systematic and thorough this course is. It's been an enlightening journey so far Alhamdulillah.

The vocab that I have learnt through Quizlet and the resource books recommended for the course has really made me conscious of what I'm reciting. Learning how each word connects to another and how sentences are structured has been a game changer for my understanding. I now enjoy a newfound way of reciting Qur'an. It's at a slower pace, where my brain is being trained to analyse each word and its meaning, then each harakat which has to go on to decipher what that ayah could possibly mean. SubhanAllah I'm in awe of how the Arabic language is structured and has such beauty in its meaning. Before I was mesmerised by tajweed and beautifying my recitation, but now I'm in a totally new realm and blown away by the language and its connotation.

I had read the full English translation of the Quran in Ramadan and realised I was missing out on so much without being able to understand what I was reading and this prompted me to look into learning Arabic again. I came across this course a few months later and it was exactly what I was looking for.

I had very minimal understanding of Arabic prior to starting the course. I only knew a handful of common words and that was all. Within a few months, with greater knowledge of the Arabic vocabulary and grammar, I could apply what I had learnt while reading the Quran and in prayer.

What originally motivated me to take this course was to fulfil the obligation to learn Arabic. A side benefit from this specific course, was it specifically being surrounded around the Quran. Being constantly reminded about the Quran, and even translating verses.

Listening to any form of Arabic slowly, I can understand what's being said. Anything that I don't understand, I can get a gist of it since I already know the topic that's being discussed. Compared to before, if you put on an Arabic podcast I wouldn't be able to even know what language was being spoken.

I hit a roadblock in my tajwid and hifdh journey. I had a strong inclination to learn Arabic because I felt this gap in my knowledge was the reason behind my roadblock in my Qur'anic studies. Since joining the ATTQ course, I have seen new pathways in my Qur'anic studies open up due to learning Arabic through the Qur'an.

Although I have never studied Arabic before nor taken any prior courses, I feel like I hit the jackpot on this course. It is incredibly beginners-friendly and delivered by an expert, dedicated, and conscientious teacher.

The ATTQ course has been amazing and transformative. The best part has been the difference in my understanding of the Quran. I find myself reciting a bit slower, trying to understand the words and what they mean. It's been revelatory being able to understand the Quran.

One of the secret tools ATTQ gives you is Quranic vocabulary. This gives you a great foundation for understanding the Quran. Coupled with a dictionary (and ATTQ teaches you how to use it), your abilities are multiplied.

I wanted to improve my Arabic but I specifically took this course to support me along my hifdh journey.

Alhamdulillah since joining ATTQ, my understanding of Arabic has improved significantly. The Quran, once almost completely incomprehensible to me, has now become clearer with my understanding deepening which had greatly helped me improve my khushu in my acts of ibadah.

There are also ample opportunities to further learning and consolidate learning beyond the lesson through revision sessions, preparation videos, and more.

My main motivation for joining this course was to improve my understanding of the Quran and alhamdulillah within a few weeks, I was able to see this! Ustadh's teaching style is engaging and interactive and he provides multiple resources to aid learning. Arabic comprehension had been a goal of mine in recent years, which I could not realise due to work constraints, with courses being full time and not conducive to a busy lifestyle. I also categorised myself as an individual in an awkward position of knowing how to read and stumble along with tajweed somewhat, but nothing else. Being a course mainly run online, with recordings available, it was heavily suited to my working lifestyle. It also was taught in a way that it was beginner friendly and completely understandable, and so addressed my need for the middle ground. I recall that I could not answer a single question in the initial baseline assessment, which I wager would now be a different story.

I always wanted to know how to learn and understand the language the Quran was revealed in so this course was the perfect opportunity to embark upon that. The course has exceeded my expectations as Ustadh Tahir has provided a variety of resources and a set structure that it would be hard not to make progress even if you are going at a slow pace.

The unique thing about this course is Ustadh Tahair himself, his passion for the Arabic language really comes through and his eagerness to support and teach is something that is rare to find. I would definitely recommend this course to others, especially those looking to start their journey with the Arabic language.

Since joining the ATTQ sessions, my understanding of both the Arabic language and the Quran has significantly improved. I have had a great experience so far and would highly recommend to others. I decided to join this course after starting tafsir lessons — during one of those sessions the teacher emphasised the importance of learning the Arabic language. This encouraged me to join the ATTQ course.

This course has been extremely well organised, thorough and interactive. Our teacher is able to break down concepts that seem complicated into a much more manageable and easy to understand format — this has been very helpful as a beginner.
